The Winona Whitewater Route is located, for the most part, in the bluffs and valleys along the Mississippi River between La Crescent and Minneiska, Minnesota. The route is named for Winona, the largest town on this route, and Whitewater State Park, a prominent park in the area.  Most of this route alternates between cruising on the Great River Road and diverting into several of the valleys leading up into the hills overlooking the river. When the route veers away from the river, it bounces around between the various inland hills that overlook the Whitewater and Root Rivers.  Winona, Minnesota makes a great staging location for this route and several others in the area. It is on the Winona Whitewater Route and it is also fairly close to several other routes in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.
